Wait on the Lord
I love my grandma’s persimmon cookies. Persimmons are a unique fruit that need to be ripe completely before you dare eat them. Even the animals know when it is better to eat persimmons. They contain tannins, which are very astringent. That means they can be bitter or pungent if you try to eat them before they are ripe. Sunlight or very cold weather can help ripen the persimmons or cause the tannins to be removed. Not picking and eating the persimmons before they are ripe is a good example of the old saying, “Patience is a virtue”. You don’t see much patience these days. People panic if they have to wait too long in line at the grocery store or for their fast food meal. People can’t even be patient as they whiz down the highway at 65 miles an hour. They think that is too slow. They need to drive 80. They don’t care who they cut off on the road. They are just concerned about their plans and needs.
As Christians we need to learn patience as we live our daily lives and as we deal with spiritual issues in our lives. If we demonstrate patience as we wait in line or as we drive on the road, we will send a message that we are concerned about others needs more than our own. Our attitudes can open a lot of doors when it comes to witnessing to others about Christ. We also need to demonstrate patience as we wait on the Lord to answer our prayers or to come back again to get us. We cannot rush the Lord. He actually expects us to wait on His timing. Read Isaiah 64:4.
4 From ancient times no one has heard, no one has listened, no eye has seen any God except You, who acts on behalf of the one who waits for Him
We receive some very good instructions in this verse. We cannot go to God and tell Him what we want or need and then demand immediate service. God knows what we need and when we need it. He will take care of us. He will give us what is best for us when we need it. We must be patient and wait. Too many times we demand our way and then get mad or run ahead of Him if He does not immediately respond with exact dream answer. Cling on to these instructions and wait on Him!
