Shifting Sands
Wise contractors and engineers know that a house or building shouldn’t be built on just sand. Every building needs a good foundation. Jesus used this example for our spiritual lives in Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
So it makes good sense to follow this wise advice from our Lord. In other words, when building our faith and our lives we should use Jesus and His Word as our foundation. Jesus, himself, is the cornerstone. Once a builder puts the best cornerstone he can find in the right position the rest of the bricks will line up and the building will be square and stand stronger. So when making decisions for life, we need to go to God’s Word and seek guidance. When picking a church to be a member of, we need to find one that follows God’s Word. When we raise our children, we need to use God’s principles. There are many things we can do that will help us to build our spiritual house on a firm foundation so that it will withstand the floods and earthquakes of life. Don’t build your life on the shifting sands of the world’s ways and ideas.
