Who Is That Singing?

Have you ever thought about the fact that God sings?  Kind of a weird concept.  I never have really thought about God sitting around on His throne and singing.  We always picture that older gentleman with the deep voice sitting on the throne making decisions, listening to prayers and giving the angels orders of things to do for Him down on Earth.  We hear His voice in old classic movies like The Ten Commandments as a deep and commanding voice full of wisdom.  A voice that booms out orders to Moses and the Israelites.  A voice that thunderously proclaims the law to His people.  Yet there is a passage that speaks to us about God singing.  Read Zephaniah 3: 14 – 17.

14 Sing, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! 15 The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. 16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. 17 The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Isn’t that fantastic!  Not only does God save us, but he rejoices over us with singing.  Can you imagine what that must sound like?  Our perfect and mighty God singing over us?  Wow, what a concept.  The most perfect and beautiful singing you will ever hear.  We get a picture of that rejoicing in a story told by Jesus in Luke 15.  It is the story of the Prodigal Son.  When the son comes home, everyone, including the Father is rejoicing.  They celebrate with music and dancing.  Read Luke 15: 24 -25.

24 because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate. 25 “Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.

That’s exactly how God feels about us.  He is so overjoyed when we receive what His Son did for us on the cross and through His resurrection.  I think I am going to be blown away if I hear God singing over me.  I have always thought about how wonderful all the people and angels singing will be when we get to Heaven.  This is the first time I have ever thought about God singing in Heaven.  What an encourager God is through His Word!  He has brought a new song to my heart this night.
